Fresh Garden to Table | Sesame Snow Peas
Once the snow has disappeared and the soil is workable, snow peas are one of the first seeds you can plant directly into the garden. They grow quickly, thrive in cool spring temperatures, and are often the first real sign that the growing season is officially underway.
As soon as they’re ready to harvest, this quick stir fry is one of my favourite ways to enjoy them. Of course, sometimes getting enough snow peas can be a challenge, my children tend to snack on them raw, right off the vine. If I’m lucky enough to gather a full bowl, this is exactly what I make.
Light, fresh, and ready in minutes, this sesame snow pea dish celebrates early garden harvests and simple ingredients that don’t need much fuss.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 lb fresh snow peas, washed and strings removed
1 1/2 tablespoons sesame seeds, lightly toasted
3 cloves Canadian garlic, finely chopped (preferably local)
2 to 3 cups bean sprouts, to taste
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Instructions
Heat sesame oil in a wok over medium-high heat.
Add snow peas and toss for approximately 2 minutes.
Add bean sprouts and garlic, tossing and cooking for another 2 minutes until snow peas are crisp yet tender.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and drizzle with soy sauce.
Serve immediately.
Feel free to add fresh asparagus as well it pairs beautifully with snow peas and is just as delicious in this recipe.
Enjoy!
