Once the snow has disappeared, and you can work the soil, snow peas are a seed you can start right into the ground.

As soon as they are ready to harvest, I love making this quick stir fry. Of course, sometimes I have trouble picking enough of them – my children snack on them raw right off the vine! If I’m lucky to get any, this is one of the things I make.

Fresh Garden to Table | Sesame Snow Peas

Ingredients

2 tbsp sesame oil
1 lb (approx) fresh snow peas plucked right from your garden (washed & string removed)
1.5 tbsp sesame seeds (lightly toasted)
3 cloves of Canadian garlic (preferably local!)
2-3 cups bean sprouts (to taste)
1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a wok over med-high heat.
  2. Toss snow peas for approx 2 minutes.
  3. Add bean sprouts and garlic. Toss/cook for another 2 minutes until the snow peas are crisp, yet tender.
  4. Sprinkle on sesame seeds and drizzle on soy sauce.
  5. Serve immediately.

Feel free to add in fresh asparagus as well, it's also delicious in this recipe.

Enjoy!
